Casseaureix wood treasure On August 15,... - Lot 11 - Rossini
Casseaureix wood treasure On August 15, 2011, while out walking in the woods at a place called "Les Casseaureix", in the commune of Nouhant (Creuse, 23). Mr. X was lucky: he found a small terracotta pot containing 460 medieval silver deniers. The next day, he informed the Nouhant town hall, as well as the owner of the wood, with whom he will become co-owner of the property in 2017. On September 19, 2011, the treasure was handed over to the Limousin Department of Cultural Affairs for study. On the following October 6, the coins were cleaned and inventoried as follows: - 229 deniers in the name of Geoffroy under Hervé III de Donzy (1160-1194), Lord of Gien - 142 deniers from Déols, including 16 under Philippe II (1206-1207) and 126 under Raoul VI, lord of the place between 1160-1176. - 87 deniers from Souvigny Abbey in the Bourbonnais region, minted between 1080 and 1213. - 2 deniers from the Issoudun seigneury, minted in the name of Eudes in the 11th century. Finally, on January 12, 2017, the scientific study having been completed, this monetary deposit will be returned with the authorization of free disposal given by the Service Régional de l'Archéologie. Today, this discovery will be sold in one piece, with its terracotta container. The coins are in a fairly advanced state of circulation, with fine oxidation covering them and a contrasting blackish patina. The small pot is 8 cm high, with a diameter of around 10 cm and a circumference of 31.5 cm.
