Étienne CABET (1788-1856) writer, author... - Lot 241 - Rossini
Étienne CABET (1788-1856) writer, author of the communist utopia Voyage en Icarie. L.A.S., [Dijon November 13, 1832], to GARNIER-PAGÈS, following a L.S. (copy) to M. Joannès; 2 pages in-4, address. He warns M. Joannès that he cannot go to the hearing of the 16th, and asks him to ask for the postponement at the end of the month. "Nobody can suppose me the fear to have to answer to justice, and one will see well that I do not fear any of the consequences of what I believed to have to write in the public interest. But, whereas, after a long session, the other Deputies were able to go to their Department, the judicial police unjustly and arbitrarily retained me 3 months in Paris against my will and in spite of my requests"... He asks Garnier-Pagès to see Joannès: "Perhaps he (Mr. Joannès) would do well to warn the President and the Attorney General. He will undoubtedly read my letter at the hearing, and the newspapers will repeat it. Please ask the Tribune to publish it"...
