René-Louis Levassor, count of LATOUCHE-TRÉVILLE (1745-1804) vice-admiral, he commanded the squadron of Toulon. L.A.S, at the Bailly house near Cape Town 3 pluviôse XI (23 January 1803), to an English admiral [Duckworth ?]; 1 page in-fol. Pacification of Saint-Domingue. Commander-in-chief of the French naval forces in Saint-Domingue, he thanks the admiral for having sent the frigate Le Hern to pick up his mail for the authorities in Jamaica. He continues to pacify Saint-Domingue: "we took the port of peace [Port-de-Paix] after a rather strong resistance from the rebels, with the help of the sustained fire of a ship and a frigate, the two forts were soon reduced, the navy had the greatest share in this success"... Attached is a P.A.S., to the French Cape 28 Floréal X (18 May 1802; 1 p. in-fol., naval vignette, on his letterhead Rear Admiral Latouche-Tréville, commander of the naval forces in Saint-Domingue). Authorization granted to Captain Cooper commanding the ship La Danaé, "to go to Havana with his ship"...
