Philippe GROUVELLE (1757-1806) literary scholar, he was in 1792 secretary of the Conseil Éxécutif, then ambassador to Denmark, and deputy. L.A.S., Copenhagen 15 frimaire III (5 December 1794), to his friend the writer GINGUENÉ; 4 pages in-4. ... "I knew, I felt your misfortunes. I was informed that the Feuille villageoise was the great grievance of the monster against you. [...] You had, like me, the courage, and more than me, the talent to tell the truth. Besides, the Tyrant knew more about me than I could tell him, and I am assured that his lists bear the proof. [...] with what joy I learned of the worthy reparation that the national justice made to you; I was moved to tears". Grouvelle sends to Ginguené, to Garat and to Siéyès a writing made "for the use of benevolent and ill-educated foreigners", translated into German, Danish and Swedish: "this apology of the revolutionary regime does not apply to the last four or five months of the Neronian domination of the oligarchs of the 9 Thermidor". He complains about his distance and compares himself to Ovid...
