Hubert-Pascal AMEILHON (1730-1811) scholar... - Lot 73 - Rossini
Hubert-Pascal AMEILHON (1730-1811) scholar and librarian, he gathered under the Revolution the religious and private libraries, and organized the Bibliothèque de l'Arsenal. L.A.S, Paris December 3, 1792, to the Directory of the Department of Paris; 1 page in-4. Commissioner of the National Libraries, he has received the copy of the orders of the minister on the "sorting to be made of the nobiliaries, armorials and other books of this kind which are in the National Libraries given to my guard or supervision. From today on, we will begin this operation, and when I have collected a certain quantity of these proscribed works, I will inform you". He will carry out the wishes of the minister with the greatest zeal: "I will put there more severity than indulgence, except then to return, if it is necessary, on some works which, in spite of the stain of their title, appeared however to be excepted from the general condemnation, because there is in the number, which are so much filled with charters and old parts that one would seek in vain elsewhere, that it is not possible to destroy them without making an irreparable damage to the history"... A printed document is attached, Decree of the National Convention of October 10, 1792, " Portant qu'il sera sursis à la vente des Bibliothèques & autres objets scientifiques, trouvés dans les maisons des Émigrés "...
