SAINT-DOMINGUE. L.A.S. by J. SUREAU, in French Cape, April 21 and 28, 1792, to J. Lafargue, merchant in Bordeaux; 2 1/2 pages in-4, address with colony postmark. Lafargue having sold one of his barrels of sugar, he prefers that he keep the others "rather than sell them in assignats" and congratulates him on the sale price; he would like him to sell them all at the same price "if I had all confidence in your paper money; I cannot conceal from you my fears in this respect, they are established on the state in which France finds itself & on the continuity of our misfortunes which are worsening more and more. On April 28, the situation had not changed: "the rebels continue to be masters of the plain and the mountains. He should wait to sell "unless you or Mr. Poupet of La Rochelle find a way to invest the proceeds of my goods in a piece of land... The number of emigrants leaving France should make these kinds of acquisitions quite easy...
