BAKOU carpet (Caucasus), late 19th century Dimensions : 188 x 126cm. Technical characteristics : Wool velvet on wool foundation. On an anthracite field with small motives, animals and stars of the Medes, stand out two "royal thrones" brick, anthracite and ivory, framed by four small "carpets" ruby, cream and ivory mihrab, decorated with kotchaks and botehs. Two important stylized multicolored floral compositions surround the whole. The main ruby border has a double row of opposite botehs. It is flanked by a charcoal counter border with kotchaks, another ivory with small polychrome botehs and another old gold "S" suite. Two-colored highlights. Beautiful elegance. (Wear)
