Louis-Thomas VILLARET-JOYEUSE (1750-1812) admiral. L.A.S., Lorient 30 frimaire IV (21 December 1795), to his "dear comrade" Joseph-Marie Nielly; 1 1/2 pages in-4 (engraved portrait enclosed). On the end of the occupation of the Île d'Yeu by English troops and the Count of Artois, in view of a landing to rally the royalist troops of the Vendée, which never took place. He received his answer concerning the memorandum of Captain Lefrancq and warned him that Captain Pillet proposed, as soon as he arrived in Nantes, to publish a letter "which will unmask this impudent character". He was told that the Île d'Yeu had been evacuated and that the English had left only a few flatboats stranded there; "the Count of Artois has left for London [...] with many emigrants that the Army and the convoy will no doubt follow. [...] I hope that at the first fine weather we will be rid of these ugly guests"...
