ASSIGNATS VENDÉENS. 2 assignats signed by... - Lot 350 - Rossini
ASSIGNATS VENDÉENS. 2 assignats signed by 4 Vendéen leaders, [late 1793]; 1 page small in-12 each. Rare assignats of the Catholic and Royal Army. These "Bons de Laval", created on November 1, 1793 by the Military Council meeting in Laval, were intended to provide for the needs of the army, to liquidate debts contracted with private individuals, and to compensate for requisitions and damages caused. They bear the printed text: "From the King. Good for the sum of one hundred pounds, bearing interest at four and a half percent, until the repayment which will be made from the Royal Treasury, at peace. And on the sides: "Catholic and Royal Army. Long live Louis XVII ". The text is surrounded by an ornamented frame (about 6,5 x 9,5 cm), with variable margins. They are numbered manually. These two hundred pounds vouchers (the largest value) bear the autograph signatures of Guy-Joseph de DONNISSAN (1737-1794), Antoine-Philippe de La Trémoille, prince de TALMOND (1765-1794), Pierre-Louis comte de BEAUVOLLIER (1761-1842, intendant general of the army), the abbé Étienne-Alexandre BERNIER (1762-1806), "Curé de St Laud". The first one, numbered 324, presents the mistake "interest of four" which will be corrected later (6,7 x 9,5 cm, stuck on paper) [Lafaurie n° 270]; on the second one, numbered 2947, the mistake has been corrected (7,5 x 11,6 cm, small hole in the center) [Lafaurie n° 269].
