Charles-Melchior-Artus de BONCHAMPS (1759-1793) Vendéen gene - Lot 275
Charles-Melchior-Artus de BONCHAMPS (1759-1793) Vendéen general, died of wounds received at the battle of Cholet. L.A.S., Saint-Florent le Vieil April 6, 1793, to M. Massonneau, commander at Liré; 2 pages in-4, address. A very rare letter about contributions, and about national property, which he thinks will soon be sold off. "It is impossible for me to make any determination on the objects contained in your letter; but I can share with you my ideas in this regard. The destruction of the contracts of the national goods is an illusory thing in its effect because my opinion is that almost all the sales or better to say all entirely will be cancelled. As for the sections for contributions it seems to me that one must be careful to keep them. But to decide on the whole I think that it is advisable to form a committee in your parish which will take cognizance of these various objects this party is undoubtedly the best and it is only necessary to have the will to finish all that ". He had in fact "destined the men of the Meillerie for Drain and Chantoceau I had sent them to you for the expedition planned for the disarmament of the patriots of your parish which did not take place"... Former collectionsBenjamin Fillon (1877, n° 2926), then Alfred Bovet (1884, n° 337).
