Jean-Sylvain BAILLY (1736-1793) scholar and astronomer, first Mayor of Paris, guillotined. L.S., Paris September 27, 1791; 1 page in-fol. (engraved portrait enclosed). The Mayor of Paris forwards a copy of the letter of M. Tarbé, minister of contributions, indicating that he reduces "for the moment to 4 000ll per day the menüe monnoye which is distributed in Paris for the Sections"... A L.S. (printed circular letter), addressed to all the districts of the City, June 1, 1790 (3 p. in-4), proposing that the Commune of Paris can acquire for 200 millions of National Goods, accompanied by a "Project of submission of the Municipality of Paris, for the acquisition of the Ecclesiastical and Domanial Goods", is joined. a l.s. from the count of SAINT-PRIEST, Paris February 8, 1790, to Bailly (1 p. in-fol.), warning him that the King is going to receive on February 11 "Mrs. Presidents and my commanders of Battalion of the sixty districts of his city of Paris".
