Rose-Gabrielle de MONTRICHARD (1742-?). L.S. "la comtesse de Montrichard chanoinesse de Migette", [convent of the Ladies] Tiercelines of Arbois March 2, 1790, to Monseigneur; 2 1/2 pages in-fol. Supplication following the suppression of religious orders by the National Assembly [on February 16, 1790]. "Destined from childhood to be buried in the darkness of the cloister", the countess of Montrichard mentions the modest income she enjoyed in Migette, and debts which served as a pretext for her brothers and the abbess to obtain a letter of seal against her; for five years she has been detained in the convent of the Tiercelines, powerless to make any representations. The recent decree of the National Assembly takes away her last resource and her last hope to "free herself". She begs Monseigneur to put her "cruel position" under the eyes of His Majesty, in order to obtain the revocation of her letter of seal and some financial help. "I write by this same letter to the Prince of Beauveau, our relative, to urge him to join his urgent prayers to mine with yours...
