Louis-Alexandre, duke of LA ROCHEFOUCAULD D'ENVILLE (1743-1792) a great liberal lord, deputy of the nobility of Paris to the Estates General, he rallied to the Third State; member of the directoire of the department of Paris, he left Paris after August 10 and was massacred at Gisors. L.A., Paris February 5, 1784, to M. de Vaublanc, marshal of camp of the King's armies in Beaune; 1 page and a quarter in-4, address with red wax seal of arms. Beautiful friendly, literary and political letter. He will fulfill this week his friend's commissions for Messrs. Franklin and de La Fayette: he has not yet been able to bring to the first "your second edition, because of the snow and ice that have interrupted communication with Passy, so I will bring it whole and corrected.
