Victoire de Donissan, marquise de LA ROCHEJAQUELEIN (1772-18 - Lot 642
Victoire de Donissan, marquise de LA ROCHEJAQUELEIN (1772-1857) widow of the Vendean leader the marquis de Lescure, she married in 1815 Louis de La Rochejaquelein. L.A.S., this 25 [August 1823], to Chevalier de CROTTAT; 2 1/2 pages in-8, address (cracks repaired); lithographed portrait enclosed. In favor of the former Vendéens. She is very grateful for the patents of the Legion: "Here are three brave Vendeans at the height of happiness"... She points out, however, a small error in the spelling of Bibart's name, and submits the case of the brave Guyot, "to whom our detestable prefect who is finally chased away hid his patent, denounced him &c". She thanks "for the cross of St Louis of my brother-in-law Mr. de Rieux-Chongis. I had not asked for it because you know that I never think about myself or my family, so the justice that is done to them is even more precious and flattering! I think with pleasure that at this moment the schoolchildren of St Cyr are in full enjoyment of seeing the inauguration of the statue of Louis 14. I believe my stunner is very happy! And I am happy to think of his joy!
