Athanase-Charles, baron de CHARETTE (1796-1848), nephew of the Vendéen general. 2 L.A.S., 1821-1841; 2 and 4 pages in-4. Châteaudun June 8, 1821, to General d'Autichamp, thanking him for his approach to the Minister of War: "I had little hope that S. Ex would think of me, but since he did not, I was able to find a solution. Ex would think of me, but since she was willing to assure you that she was waiting for a favorable moment to place me in the guard, I want to flatter myself a little more with the desire that I have to enter this corps"... (draft attached of an intervention in favor of Charrette, recounting his service record and asking for the Legion of Honor for him; plus two notes concerning the Count of Autichamp). La Contrie July 17, 1841, to an editor, about the biography of the duchess of Berry and the articles on the events of the Vendée in 1831: he notes an error concerning his membership in the nobility, but he admits that he "attaches a much higher price to the glory of General Charrette, and that I consider it to be the most beautiful title in my family. [...] As for my political career, it is difficult for me, Sir, to give you documents without arousing many passions: I was unfortunately, by my position with Madame, the point of focus where all the features came to be directed [...] I thought that time, and a few milestones placed from distance would one day make my devotion appreciated in its true colors, and especially would make known with what elevation of thought Madame had led this noble enterprise "...
