Jean-Lambert TALLIEN (1767-1820) conventionnel,... - Lot 636 - Rossini
Jean-Lambert TALLIEN (1767-1820) conventionnel, Montagnard, one of the architects of the Neuf-Thermidor. L.A.S., February 24, 1819, [to Alphonse de Martainville]; 2 pages in-4. Correction addressed to the director of the Drapeau Blanc. Tallien asks to publish his answer to the facts that one attributes to him, which are completely distorted: "It never existed in any time of connection of intimacy between the General Bernadotte and me. I only know of him his beautiful and honorable military reputation". Being in Egypt when he was named Minister of War, he never met him since his return. "I have not had any correspondence with him, neither as Royal Prince, nor as King of Sweden". It was without warning that his daughter asked Bernadotte to be the godfather of her daughter. He did not attend the baptism, where the King of Sweden was represented by an ambassador... "all the rest is pure invention, and particularly the more than ridiculous exclamation, not to say insane, that you lend me. No such sentence [...] has ever come out of my mouth. I am used to thinking before I speak, especially on delicate matters"...
