BATAILLON DES PATRIOTES DE 1789. P.S. by 6 officers, 15 vendémiaire IV (7 October 1795); 1 oblong page in-fol. partly printed, vignette, header Ier Bataillon des Patriotes de 1789. Rare patent of the Patriotes of 1789, a militia composed of 3 battalions, formed by former Montagnards on the night of 11 Vendémiaire to defend the Convention against the revolting royalist sections, as indicated by the caption under the vignette: Guerre Éternelle aux Royalistes. The officers of this 1st Battalion attest that citizen Gauthereau, aged 28, was wounded by a shot, that he "came to gather with zeal at the Jardin National to be part of the said Battalion [......], he marched with us against the Rebels and Royalists in the street of the National Convention [...], and that he showed himself, in this perilous action, with all the courage and intrepidity of a good republican [...] finally, that he took all the fire of the enemy entrenched in the Church of St. Roch. Roch"... A patent of the Revolutionary Army, Company of Gunners, 6 ventôse II (24 february 1794); and a reformation leave with representation of the Bastille, Besançon 3rd sans-culottide year II (29 sept. 1794).
