Philippe BUONARROTI (1761-1837) Italian revolutionary, frien - Lot 515
Philippe BUONARROTI (1761-1837) Italian revolutionary, friend and supporter of Babeuf. L.A.S., Paris 19 thermidor III (August 6, 1795), "to his friend Joseph Buonaparte"; 1 page in-4. Rare letter from the prison of Plessis. "For five months I have been languishing in irons. I will not speak to you about the injustice of this treatment, you must be convinced of it. I will only tell you that I am in the most complete misery without any hope of help. I have tried your friendship in the past, I ask you for a new proof of it by begging you to come in some way to relieve my sufferings. In the midst of so many storms I have remained pure: my heart is tranquil, and if I have to die it will be without the slightest remorse"... He also begs you to take up a collection for him, "because I have nothing: here is a famous squanderer"...
