WORKSHOPS AND CONSTRUCTION SITES OF THE LOIRE Launching axe of the Geneviève Molinos, in cast brass, the cutting edge in iron, it bears the number ACL on its body, and, engraved on its blade: NANTES - February 1st 1899 - GENEVIEVE MOLINOS. This type of small axe was used to cut on a log the last rope that still symbolically linked the ship to the land. L. : 31 cm - Its iron has been damaged probably by the cutting of the rope during the christening of the ship. Similar model for the Mistral in the collections of the Musée de la Marine. Inventory number 2008.23.3. Note: Mr. Molinos was president of the Société des Ingénieurs Civils de France and his daughters' names were given to several sailing ships. Geneviève Molinos, a three-master, was a fine ship of 2,500 t in heavy lift having participated in the Cape Horn campaigns and whose 1911 campaign was the subject of an account in the book "L'empreinte de la voile" (The Footprint of Sailing) by Commander Georges AUBIN.
