Ruzname Ottoman Ink, polychrome pigments... - Lot 168 - Rossini
Ruzname Ottoman Ink, polychrome pigments and gold on vellum, red leather Turkey, dated 1174 AH / 1760 AD H. 102 cm This Ottoman ruzname manuscript is an almanac or calendar in the form of a scroll, painted in polychrome and gold on vellum. It opens on a cartouche richly illuminated with polychrome and gold floral motifs, friezes of geometric interlacing, bordered with golden scrolls. The rest of the manuscript, which is a calendar, is written in black and red ink and is inscribed in a long golden grid, with marginal annotations. The scroll ends with a colophon inscribed in a final mandorla, with the signature of the calligrapher (Muhammad Ibn al-Saba'i) and the date 1174 AH / 1760 AD. The British Library holds a comparable manuscript on vellum (inv. no. Or 14365). (Small tears, wear to the red leather)
