FONTANA 18K (750) yellow gold filigree clip set with a sapphire and round and cushion-shaped old-cut diamonds. Signed. Hallmark of master. Eagle head hallmark. With case bearing the inscription "Maison fondée en 1840 au Palais Royal FONTANA 13 rue Royale 13 PARIS. Total estimated weight of diamonds : 1,30 ct Weight of the sapphire : 0,60 ct Dimensions : 5,4 x 3,5 cm. - Gross weight : 15,20 g. FONTANA was founded in the 19th century in Paris, rue du Beaujolais, on the edge of the Palais Royal by a Swiss businessman, Thomas Fontana. His nephews Joseph Fontana and Alexandre Templier took over until his son Charles Fontana came of age. In 1871, Charles Fontana took over the company and gave it the name Ch. Fontana et Cie. In 1896, he moved to 13 rue Royale. The company was one of the most prestigious of its time for the quality of its work and the forms used, interpreting the influences of Art Nouveau and Art Deco.
