Jules VIEILLARD (1813-1868) in Bordeaux Oval dish in fine earthenware with polychrome decoration of peonies (paeonia suffruticosa), butterflies, and dragonflies. In reserve, a Japanese character riding a duck, the scene topped by an inscription in Japanese and in another reserve a koi carp. Mark on the bottom Jules Vieillard L. 34 cm Wear, small chips and scratches The model was created in 1875 especially at the request of a rich Bordeaux salt merchant who called upon the Jules Vieillard Manufacture whose services were at the time strongly influenced by Japanese art. With the help of the decorative painters Eugène Millet and C. Buche, Amédée de Caranza (1843-1914) created this decoration inspired by the prints of Hokusaï.
