New edition, recast and enlarged with a preliminary discourse on the discovery of the Austral Lands and the myth of the Patagonian giants, remarks on natural history, etc., illustrated with 18 engraved maps and plates, of which 2 are noted VIII* and IX*. Plate n°XVI illustrates a peaceful encounter between a European and a Patagonian family. A dictionary of marine terms used in the work is found on pages 301-334 of volume II. The author accompanied Louis-Antoine de Bougainville in 1763-1764 on his voyage to take possession of the Falkland Islands.
