VAN BALEN Hendrick and BREUGHEL Jan II called the Younger (Attributed to) Antwerp 1575 - 1632Antwerp 1601 - 1678 Diana and her nymphs at rest surprised by satyrs Oil on copper. Parquetage (small lacks in the upper left and lower right. Old yellowed and dirty varnish) H.: 45,5 cm - L.: 61 cm Wooden frame and gilded stucco of the 19th century decorated with ovals in the corners and foliage and flowers (small accidents). The composition painted on copper, of the same dimensions (46 x 61 cm), by Hendrick van Balen and Jan Breughel I (in the Dresden Museum, Inv. Nr.925) Bettina Werche in her catalogue of Hendrick van Balen's work attributes the hunting trophies to Jan Brueghel I (1568 - 1625) (Vol I. A 89. pp.168 &169 & Vol II. p. 377- Brepols 2004), while Klaus Ertz considers them to be by Jan II (Cf. Jan Breughel Der Jüngere, no. 240, p. 402 - Luca Verlag Freren 1984).
