TRAVEL COLLECTION. - Set of 6 books in 12 volumes in-8, blond speckled basane, double gilt fillet, smooth decorated spine, red title piece, yellow edges speckled with red (Binding ca. 1800). This set comes from a collection in attractive uniform binding and includes the following books, titled and spine cut: - Volumes XIV and XV: [ANBURY (Thomas)]. Travels to the interior parts of America during the last war. Paris, Briand, 1790. First French edition (cf. Sabin, n°1368). - Volumes XVIII and XIX: SMITH. Trip to the United States of America, made in 1784. Paris, Buisson, 1791. First French edition (cf. Sabin, n°85256). - volumes XX, XXI and XXII: BRISSOT DE WARVILLE. New trip to the United States of Northern America; made in 1788. Paris, Buisson, April 1791. Original edition, decorated with a folding painting (cf. Sabin, n°8035). - Volume XXIII: BOSSU. New journeys in North America. Amsterdam, Changuion, 1777. Edition decorated with 4 plates (cf. Sabin, n°6465). Facsimile plates. - Volumes XLI and XLII: IRWIN (Eyles). Journey to the Red Sea, on the coasts of Arabia, in Egypt, and in the deserts of the Thebaid. Paris, Briand, 1792. - Volumes XLIV and XLV: MAKINTOSH. Travels in Europe, Asia and Africa... Started in 1777, & finished in 1781. London, And is in Paris, Regnault, 1788. Both maps are missing. Each volume has a printed title, Collection de voyages, dated Paris, An 4e de la République. A pencil note indicates that the set comes from the library of the Earl of Warren at the Château de Madon in the Loir-et-Cher, former residence of Themines in 1789. Minor binding defects, a few freckles.
