NECKER. - [MEISTER (Jacques-Henri)]. Natural morality. Followed by the Happiness of fools. Paris, 1788. In-8, marbled basane, smooth spine decorated, red edges (contemporary binding). Goldsmiths, number 13750. Necker's thin brochure On the Happiness of the Sots occupies pp. 121-134, the rest of the volume containing the moral treatise of Meister, secretary of Grimm and friend of Diderot and Necker. According to Necker, the pillars of the mercantilist state were power and happiness (cf. Spengler, p. 300). Old handwritten signature on the title. Marginal stains on the endpapers, the title and the last two leaves, due to the return of the skin on the back covers. Epiderminations at the binding.
