Samarkand (CENTRAL ASIA),mid-19th century Technical characteristics: wool velvet on wool foundations. Uses Collector's item. A purple field with crenellated spandrels supports three medallions, an old gold pomegranate and two other polylobed chestnut and Medesian stars, interspersed with old gold crosses pattées. A Greek-style counter border and another with "column capitals" frame the main one with stylized plants.
