Notes taken on the spot at the sessions of the National Constituent Assembly. The document is titled on the cover : " Cahier des séances de l'assé Conste redigé par M. De Barère de Vieuzac pour son journal Le Point du jour ", and on the back, the precision : " 3ème cahier de l'assemblée nationale commencé le 21 juillet 1789 fini le 30 ". Barère collects there elements of interventions of deputies and some miscellaneous facts. Of Wednesday 21. In the church St Louis. "M. Grég. [the abbot GRÉGOIRE] read the minutes of the 18th. The depon of Paris sat down to advise on the means of helping the unfortunate men of the fauxbourg St Antoine"... It is question of the assassination by the crowd of the "unfortunate Sauvage", of addresses of various cities, of the lack of bread, wheat and flours... From Thursday July 22. In the ordinary room. M. de MIRABEAU: "The situation of the capital orders your prudence to take steps for peace. I spent two days there; I went to the district of my residence. A crowd of tales ferment there at once", notably on "the dissension between the districts and the electors. The dist. felt that they owed a rec. to the sentinels of the public good who had seized the reins of thedon of Paris by zeal, but they recognized that any power which did not have the generalprob. should not last. - They speak of the kind of character you have given them by admitting them. They did not feel that this assembly owes benevolence to the whole collection of individuals, and that we owe egards to the right of our constituents"... Comment on the various assemblies of the electors, and proposal to deliberate on the way to exert a great influence, to make the various districts walk together... Intervention of LALLY-TOLLENDAL, who received the visit of a young man begging him to save the nation after having "spent 15 years to defend your father"... MIRABEAU, moved, answers: "The only means of containing the people, is the permanent plan that the bourgeoisie will establish. - The day before yesterday, less than in Paris, the only noise of proclamation made a bad effect. It is in the human heart that an armed man regroups as a power - it is therefore necessary to unite the people to a legal & ordered power - the authority cannot make itself heard - it is necessary to negotiate"... A priest: "The remedy to so many evils: in the hamlets where the men hardly have bread. - A general means is the intervention of the priests. Religion will be able to tranquilize the people"... BARNAVE : "To make the constitution, and to assure the lib. & personal security - main object. [...] I am saddened by the assaults that have occurred in Paris - what are they compared to the salvation of a great nation - which men have been lost? The blood which has just been spilled was it so pure... We must not be softened: how many citizens died at the foot of the Bastille, here are those whom we must mourn "... From GOUY: " The frightening tr. resumed. These were outside the Bastille sacrifices to liberty: one said at the city hall we bring you peace and we ask for it. - No new enemies came; there is nothing. Dances preceded the bloody heads: this picture is below the truth. The head of a father-in-law was carried under the eyes of a son-in-law: this is a great evil for humanity. It is a great political evil. What should we think of these horrible scenes: (69 names) "... Etc. A note on the back cover indicates: "On Thursday, July 22, Mr. Foulon's head was cut off and carried on a pike & his body was dragged through the streets of the city.
