Enamel plate painted in grisaille with gold highlights depicting a man and woman eating porridge, after an engraving by Nicolaes de Bruyn (1581-1656). Inscription at bottom Sollicitus Ventrem Quibus Expleat Usque Macrescit ("I eat greedily and gorge myself on porridge, and yet I remain just as thin"). Monogrammed SL(?) lower right. Midnight blue counter-glaze. 19th century, in the style of Jacques I Laudin's Limoges enamels 12.2 x 15.1 cm In a gilded wood frame. Collection label DA 7657 on back.
