JAPAN - MEIJI period (1868 - 1912) Small portable iron cabinet inlaid with gold, decorated on the front with the temple of Chion (in Kyoto), on the sides with Miyajima (the island of Itsukushima) and the port of Shimizu, and on the back with a pair of cranes among bamboo. The inside of the door is decorated with three poly-lobed reserves featuring birds on a background of "manji" (svatiska) characters, opening to four drawers decorated with medallions and kiku (chrysanthemums) on a background of "manji" (swastika) characters. The door handle is in the shape of a butterfly, and the handles of the four drawers are in the shape of chrysanthemums. On the reverse, Kyoto Komai saku mark and raku stamp. Dim. 7.5 x 8.2 x 6 cm
