Etienne LEPERLIER (France, 1952-2014) - Lot 132
Etienne LEPERLIER (France, 1952-2014) "La meurtrière Three-part sculpture in tortoiseshell, red and green pâte de verre. Model no. 32 created in 1988, available in an edition of ten. Signed and numbered 616 AEL 8/8 under the base, created in 1991. Reproduced on page 66 of the artist's catalog published for the Musée de Conches retrospective exhibition in 2015. This sculpture, the 32nd model created by the artist in 1988, precedes the period of numbered copies (which followed that of the first models made in small series), which enabled the creator to adapt to French legislation concerning original pieces in the field of sculpture, i.e. 8 copies numbered from 1/8 to 8/8 and 4 artist's proofs. Our example is the last of the series (10 were made in all), and dates from 1991, a period when Corning crystal was available, whose properties provided a depth of color and transparency not possible with the Daum crystal previously used. This is particularly evident in the nuanced tortoiseshell-colored central part of our sculpture. This work, imbued with surrealism, is a subtle blend of architecture and decorative art, in which the 3 elements (Etienne's favorite number) gracefully form a whole into which light rushes.
