BRECOURT, Based on a model - Lot 240
BRECOURT, Based on a model Vase-shaped clock on pedestal in gilt and brown patina bronze, with white enamel dial in the center, with Arabic hour and minute markers, signed LeCoeur in Paris. The dial, flanked by dolphins, is surmounted by a gushing fountain. The pedestal, decorated with asparagus rudentures, canals and a frieze of pearled foliage, rests on a square base adorned with foliage reserves. Napoleon III period. The movement plate is signed A.-H. Rodanet, Paris. Height: 43 cm. Oxidation, minor knocks. The first model of this clock was commissioned by King Louis XVI from the Parisian bronze-maker Brécourt, who had already carried out various commissions for the court. Delivered in 1775, this clock was intended to decorate the king's private cabinet. Made of Sèvres blue porcelain and gilded bronze, it takes the form of an ovoid bowl from which jets of water escape. Its dolphin-shaped handles echoed the silhouette of the fountains at the Château de Versailles.
