Piedmont school circa 1820 Portrait of the Countess of Masin, née Solaro de Villanova Oil on canvas 28.5 x 25.5 cm. On the back, inscriptions in ink probably dating from the 17th century: "La Ctesse de Valperga de Masin, née Ctesse de Solar". Auguste Audebert, in his "Notice généalogique sur la maison de Masin", in the Revue Historique de la Noblesse (1841, volume 2, pp. 57-69), tells us that: "Madame la comtesse de Masin, née des Solar de Villeneuve, one of the first families of Piedmont, is a woman of superior merit and spirit. She is, by her education, and by her amiability, the ornament of Turin society; her high virtues make her appreciated by her many friends, while her beneficence attracts the blessings of the poor and unfortunate who are the object of her constant solicitude; she employs in good works the greater part of her wealth, of which, guided by enlightened charity, she thus makes the best use."
