FRENCH ECOLE, first third of the 19th century VALENTINI Portrait of Jean-Louis Jalabert in the costume of Adjutant-Major of the National Guard, known as Napoleon's 1766-1846 Oil on paper mounted on canvas (small gaps; missing lower left; trace of accident towards middle left; old varnish soiled) Engraved on reverse H. 63 - L. 49.5 cm. According to a handwritten label on the reverse, Jean-Louis Jalabert is "the true founder of the Musée de Saint-Etienne, his eldest son Christophe, delegated in 1861 by the city to acquire part of the Musée Oudinot".
