"HE IS THE CONQUEROR". - Lot 13
"HE IS THE CONQUEROR". Luxurious pair of Ottoman ceremonial or gift axes. Irons in nielloed steel. Sockets decorated with trophies on the plates and radiant suns on the backs. Radiant sun encircled by a laurel wreath under a moon and star at the top. The edge plates, framed by arabesque friezes, feature a cartouche inscribed with "Houwa el faith", meaning "He is the conqueror". Wooden handles entirely covered with stamped and brass-studded basane. Ottoman Empire, late 18th, early 19th century. Thanks to M Khaled Lakaska.
