L.A.S., Lorient 17 messidor VI (July 5, 1798), to his friend Barthélemy CABARRUS, banker in Paris; 1 page in-4, address with postmark. After his accusation of negligence in the burning of the vessel Le Quatorze Juillet in Lorient (April 4, 1798). He is impatient with the fact that the Conseil des Cinq Cents has not yet finished with the report made by Boulay-Paty. "Can't you let me know the names of the individuals with what they have written against me. I am quite sure if I had this knowledge that I would have no difficulty in revealing the motives that made them act. It is not permitted to fight in the dark". He is confident of having fulfilled his duties, and trusts that the Directoire will do him justice...
