Louis-Thibault DU BOIS DU BAIS (1743-1834) deputy and conven - Lot 153
Louis-Thibault DU BOIS DU BAIS (1743-1834) deputy and conventioneer (Calvados). L.A.S., Paris 15 ventôse II (March 5, 1794), to the Comité de Sûreté générale; 3 pages in-fol. Interesting letter on Federalism. Du Bois du Bais comments on the report on the Federalists, as he had done on the report by Jullien de Toulouse, which "implicitly and falsely implicates all the deputies from Calvados as having held conciliabula with the commissioners sent from this department at the time of the days of May 31st and June 1st and 2nd". Du Bois du Bais was on mission in Maubeuge at the time: "I fought Federalism effectively and successfully, obtaining addresses from all the corps in the garrison and the entire division, firmly protesting against all acts of Federalism and even threatening to fight it". He also protested when the Calvados deputies were criticized for dampening the zeal and patriotism of citizens; he had always sought "to inspire love of the fatherland, its unity and indivisibility, and finally to warm patriotism to the highest degree", particularly in his letters to the Popular Societies of Lisieux and Cambremer: "I abhorred Federalism, which handed us over to our enemies like royalism. [...] I was a republican before the revolution"; no one is more loyal or incorruptible than he...Former Patrice Hennessy collection (his stamp). 9785/754
