François-Xavier LANTHENAS (1754-1799) Conventionnel (Rhône a - Lot 77
François-Xavier LANTHENAS (1754-1799) Conventionnel (Rhône and Loire). L.A.S. "F.L.", September 25, 1790, to Louis-Augustin Bosc d'Antic; 3 pages in-8. He thanks his friend who sent him letters from Philadelphia, and tells him about his journey on foot from Lyon to the Carthusian monastery of Sainte-Croix: "I crossed some interesting mountains and along the way I catechized the peasants. I saw the national guard practicing in a village called Longes, a league from this monastery; and I learned with satisfaction that the municipality of this village had just spent L 1500 - to arm its citizens. I have never ceased to invite everyone to do the same, and I dare to believe that my patriotic mission will not be without fruit. News of his friend's death saddened him: "When I told you at the Société du Serment du Jeu de Paume, that while we were getting drunk on the festive spirit of Federation Day, the wise should gather themselves together and get the various parts of the public thing moving forward, you wouldn't believe me! See how we're doing! I haven't received any news from our Society for Equal Sharing. You will have seen in Charbonnel's letter what people think in Philadelphia. No agreement, no union, even among patriots who are not divided". He wrote a very long letter about Lyon to deputy Lamétrie: "Try to see him and urge journalists to thunder, taking advantage of the important insights we have gathered"...
