CHRISTOFLE for the TABLE SERVICE of EMPEROR NAPOLEON III. Circular bowl in silver-plated metal, the neck emphasized by a molding decoration. The body engraved with the great arms of the Empire. Numbered 121101 and marked 62 Napoleon III period, 1853-1868. Different CC goldsmith's hallmark and CHRISTOFLE mark. H. 6.6 cm - Diam.: 22 cm. Scratches, partially unsilvered underside and knocks. In 1851, Emperor Napoleon III commissioned Charles Christofle (1805-1863) to produce official Empire tableware. His titles of King's Goldsmith and Emperor's Supplier enabled the now-famous firm to be solicited by foreign sovereigns such as the Emperor of Mexico and the Tsar of Russia.
