Saint-Cloud Park, France, circa 1820-1830 - Lot 161
Saint-Cloud Park, France, circa 1820-1830
Rare hand-held screen with mechanical unwinding based on Carmontelle's transparencies, called a "panorama screen" after the Gaucheret brothers' patent filed in Paris in 1820.
The screen is made of cardboard, paper, engraving and gouache highlights. Two wheels allow views to be scrolled like in a small theater, or a projection in the spirit of pre-cinema. The back is covered in pink paper with green edging, and hollowed out at the panorama point where a gauze allows light to pass through to illuminate the face.
The promenade shows the château and park of Saint-Cloud near Paris with strollers.
-View of Saint-Cloud from the banks of the Seine
-A fountain in the park
-The Château de Saint-Cloud overlooking the grand cascade
-The grand jet d'eau in the park, rising to a height of 42 meters
-The Château de Saint-Cloud
-The Demosthenes lantern in the park, with its belvedere and panoramic view of Paris.
The ends feature the word "Fin" on each side.
Turned wooden handle.
Height 36 cm-L. 20.5 cm (wear, in working order)
