Rare representation of Saint Eustatius in carved and polychromed limestone. Emperor Trajan's general is standing, carrying his two sons in his arms. Inscription on the terrace S EVS(T)ACE framed by two shields of arms. 15th century Height: 44 cm (accidents and missing parts) Saint Eustace, a former Roman general named Placide, converted to Christianity after seeing Christ between the antlers of a stag. A model of faith, he miraculously lost and then found his family, before dying a martyr's death with his wife and two sons, whom he carries in his arms as a reminder of their shared torment.
