Saint Eustace, a former Roman general named Placide, converted to Christianity after seeing Christ between the antlers of a stag. A model of faith, he miraculously lost and then found his family, before dying a martyr's death with his wife and two sons, whom he carries in his arms as a reminder of their shared torment.
