Three monumental wood panels from a Damascene interior Stuccoed wood, painted in polychrome, varnished and gilded, mirrors Levant, probably Damascus, 19th century Dimensions: 287 x 146 cm ; 287 x 110 cm These three large panels of stuccoed woodwork adorned the walls of an interior decorated in the 'Ajami style, typical of the decorations in vogue in Damascus in the 18th and 19th centuries. They feature a wealth of polychrome and gilded decorations, partly in relief, with friezes of floral and geometric motifs, architecture and calligraphy. The large double door is crowned, in the upper center, with a portrait of a man wearing a fez painted in a medallion, and adorned with two landscapes in the upper spandrels.
