Collection of 8 printed documents relating to the question of the Jews and their emancipation under the constitutional monarchy (1790-1791). - EXTRACT from the Minutes of the Sessions of the Intermediate Provincial Commission of Alsace. August 28, 1789. S.l.n.d. [1789]. Folio-sized leaflet. Very rare historical document, of capital importance for the history of the Jews in France during the Revolution, and in particular in Alsace where they were persecuted: The Intermediate Commission has seen with sorrow the excesses committed in several communities of the province, against the Jewish families established there, & the bad treatment with which they were expelled from their homes, after having plundered & devastated their properties. [...] declares that, if new offenses are committed, the entire communities & all inhabitants in particular will be in a position to be considered seditious, disrupters of public peace, deemed jointly responsible for all damages, & condemned to repair them; since every society must protect the property of all its members [...]. Very important law ratifying the decree of the National Assembly of September 27, 1791 for the emancipation of the Jews of France.The decree of emancipation of the Jews of September 27, 1791 refers to the French Constitution, from which it logically follows. The Constituents, faithful to the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen and to the Constitution, recognized that the Jews of France were French, like all Frenchmen (Feuerwerker).
