First edition of the dissertation by Zalkind Hourwitz (1751-1812), a Polish Jew who won a prize in the 1788 Metz Royal Academy competition, along with Abbé Grégoire and the Nancy lawyer Thiéry. Shortly afterwards, Hourwitz became the King's secretary-interpreter for oriental languages at the Royal Library. Small brown stain on edge of first ten leaves, small repaired crack to title.
