Rodrigues, November 28 and 29, 1928, n° 205 as Pierre-Paul Rubens (Pl XXXIII). Bibliography: Léo van Puyvelde, Les esquisses de Rubens, n°67 p 85 cited as "carton" (but with erroneous dimensions 450 x 365 cm), Basel, 1948. An early version of the sketch by Peter - Paul Rubens of similar dimensions (44 x 38 cm) kept in the Boymans - van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam, preparatory to the painting in the Sarasota Museum (Cf. Michael Jaffé. Rubens. Catalogo completo, n°1028 & 1029 - Rizzoli 1989). These studies and the paintings (107 x 126.5 cm) served as models for a suite of eight tapestry cartoons dedicated to the Life of Achilles.
