Panel of four Iznik tiles Siliceous paste with cobalt, turquoise and white decoration under a transparent colourless glaze, in a carved wooden frame Turkey, Iznik, 17th century for the tiles Levant, 19th century for the wooden frame Dimensions of a tile with view : 25 x 23,5 cm Total dimensions including frame: 131.5 x 63 cm Provenance : Former French collection These four tiles presented in a frieze have a blue-white decoration, from two different groups produced in Iznik in the 17th century. The first and third tiles are similarly decorated with a central bouquet of carnations and tulips in a bowl between two cypresses, while the second and fourth tiles are decorated with composite flowers and saz leaves. These two types of decoration correspond to Iznik production in the second half of the 17th century, mainly for export to Egypt. A tile with similar decoration of bouquets of carnations and cypresses is preserved in the British Museum in London (Inv. No. OA+.10771.1-4).
