MEISSEN, 19th century - Lot 281
MEISSEN, 19th century A pair of polychrome porcelain figures with gold highlights depicting a Malabar couple, based on models created by Johann Friedrich EBERLEIN (1695–1749) around 1746–1747. The man is depicted standing, wearing a straw hat, a tunic with a floral pattern, and a fur-trimmed coat; he carries a quiver on his back and leans on a shield. The woman, also wearing a straw hat and dressed in a polychrome oriental costume with floral decoration, is holding two baskets. Both figures rest on naturalistic bases with gold highlights. Blue marks beneath the bases. H.: 35 and 36 cm Some chips and missing pieces
