Attributed to the Maison Pauly & Cie, Venice, circa 1900 H. 81 cm L. 129 cm W. 69 cm Provenance: Artcurial sale, Paris, July 8, 2014, lot 32 Accidents and restorations Note: "These armchairs with mermaid motifs, the seat carved in the shape of a shell, are more sophisticated than most of the known ones illustrated in Bruce M. Newman, Meubles Insolites, Flammarion, 2088, or sold in the past, such as this rocking chair, a dragon replacing the mermaid, the straight seat and back imitating a flat shell (Christie's London, October 1, 1998, lot 276).
