WELFARE. - Set of 52 printed pieces, in sheets, bound or unbound, various formats. Important collection of 52 decrees and laws on benevolence, public relief, foundlings, and houses of charity and correction during the Revolution. Of particular interest are: - LOI relieving the Seigneurs Haut-Justiciers of the obligation to feed abandoned children (December 10, 1790). - LOI relative à la vérification des Caisses patriotiques ou de secours (April 1, 1792). - the decree of the National Convention of October 15, 1793 containing measures for the extinction of begging. - LOI relative à l'établissement des prisons & d'une maison de correction dans le département de Seine & Oise (May 13, 1792). - the decree of January 23, 1793, granting three hundred thousand pounds in aid to the town of Thionville following losses inflicted by the invasion or ravaging of the Nation's enemies. - the decree of February 15, 1793, making twelve hundred thousand livres available to the Minister of the Interior for the expenditure of the hospitals of the Enfans-trouvés. - the decree of the National Convention, dated 22nd Floréal year II, ordering the creation of a Livre de la Bienfaisance nationale. Note that 4 of the documents in the set are circulars from the Toulon hospices for the 1830s.
