[MANIFESTO OF BRUNSWICK]. L.A.S. by René... - Lot 185 - Rossini
[MANIFESTO OF BRUNSWICK]. L.A.S. by René Mesnil, Paris July 26, 1792, to the President of the National Assembly Laffon-Ladébat; 3 pages in-fol. Strong reaction to the Manifesto ofBrunswick."Allow me to invite you to urge you in the name of all the men who have the sound judgment and the right heart, to deploy all the dignity of your character against whoever dares in absurd addresses, fanatical petitions, incendiary motions, to insult the administrative Bodies, to break the unity which must subsist forever between the Constitution, the Assembly and the King"; which have for effect to "provoke the insertion in the minutes of seditious declamations whose effect is to maintain the anarchy, to carry the disorder and the consternation to the extremities of the kingdom"... The fate of France "depends on the party that the Assembly will take in the short space of fifteen days. [...] I summon you in the name of the Fatherland in danger not to suffer that the tribunes violate with impunity the respect due to the Legislative body. With what right do they arrogate to themselves this supreme dictatorship over him? They are always the same figures whose vociferations and booings interrupt each day the work of the deputies... "That it learns, this misled people, that the Representatives of the Nation must be free, independent, impassible, that no faction must influence their deliberations"... Etc.One attaches a L.S. of the minister of Justice DEJOLY, July 19, 1792, worrying about a "great gathering of people, of which part in weapons", on the ground of the Bastille.
